Set design for AFTER DARK, a conversation event series at SFMOMA in which ten people –half SFMOMA staff and half people from outside the museum – were brought together to discuss a small number of works from the permanent collection for as many hours as the conversations would last with the goal of discovering new kinds of language for gallery interpretation. The series was videotaped which required a set that would not only look good and complement the museum’s existing interior space but also accommodate 10 people comfortably for several hours while allowing space for a video crew and equipment; and all of this on a very small budget.
