boutique design
Sportique @ 808 Sutter Street in SF, 2010
Interior Design for Sportique, an outdoor sporting accessories boutique on Sutter St in downtown San Francisco. The intention was to present the products as beautiful objects by creating a clean, minimal space to act as a bridge between the cityscape and the real outdoors. 90% of the materials used were repurposed items with rich patinas and previous lives; this allowed for a design with very little negative environmental impact.
Natural materials were used as a reference to the outdoors; most displays are made from reclaimed wood or architectural components, light-colored stones act as both a decorative element on the floor of the front display window, and also as a natural light source -- light reflects off the rocks onto the merchandise above making it easier to see in to the store from the exterior -- a natural low-tech solution to the problem of afternoon glare on the south facing windows.
